Rules & Regulations

The 2026 GRIT Fall Training Camp is designed to provide a professional, safe, and respectful training environment for athletes, coaches, auditors, families, and guests.

All participants are expected to follow the rules and expectations outlined below, as well as all instructions provided by Ontario Equestrian, GRIT staff, coaches, and Adena Springs North staff while on site.

ATHLETE RULES & REGULATIONS

1. Registration & Required Documentation

All athletes must complete the required registration documentation prior to attending camp, including:

  • Completed Entry Form
  • NW Stables Release of Liability
  • Ontario Equestrian Release of Liability

All required releases are completed through the Entry Form.

2. Ship-In & Stabling

Ship-in times:

  • Thursday, October 15: 12:00 PM–8:00 PM

Stabling: Barn 8 — please refer to the stall chart for your assigned stall.

Trailer parking: Behind Barn 8, in the racetrack area. Please park as close to the maintenance building as possible.

Stalls will include:

  • Stall
  • 6 bags of shavings

Athletes and athlete support teams are responsible for all aspects of their horse's care throughout the event, including feeding, hay, stall cleaning, watering, grooming, and equipment.

Please bring all required supplies, including:

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Pitchfork
  • Water buckets
  • Feed tubs
  • Feed and hay
  • Grooming supplies
  • Any other equipment required for your horse

3. Horse Care & Stabling Expectations

Athletes are responsible for maintaining their horse and stall throughout their stay.

  • Stalls must be cleaned daily.
  • Stalls must be completely stripped before departure.
  • Failure to strip your stall will result in a $100 fine.
  • Keep aisles and tack areas clean and organized.
  • Put all equipment away after use.
  • Tack trunks must be wiped down and organized.
  • Only tack trunks are permitted in barn aisles.
  • Manure and stall waste must be placed in the green wagons located at the entrances to Barn 8.
  • Athletes are responsible for cleaning up their horse's waste anywhere on the property.
  • Wash stalls are available.
  • Grazing is available.
  • Turnout is not permitted.
  • Grooms must be RSVP'd in advance.

Please remember that other boarders are on site. Respect shared spaces and keep noise and activity appropriate at all times.

4. Horse Presentation

GRIT athletes are expected to maintain their horses to a professional, competition-ready standard.

Before leaving the barn, ensure that your horse is:

  • Fully groomed
  • Brushed, including the coat and legs
  • Clean-faced
  • Free of shavings
  • Tail brushed and free of shavings
  • Hooves cleaned and presented appropriately

Horse tack should also be maintained to a competition-ready standard:

  • Leather tack clean
  • Bits clean and shiny
  • Boots clean
  • Saddle pad spotless
  • Throat latch, cheek pieces, noseband, and flash properly secured in runners and keepers

5. Barn & Facility Rules

Barn access: 8:00 AM–7:00 PM
Adena Barn Staff Hours: 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
Riding Hours: 8:00 AM–7:00 PM with adult supervision

  • A buddy system is required when in the barn; no one should be in the barn alone.
  • Keep aisles swept and tidy.
  • Respect all shared spaces and on-site boarders.
  • Do not wander or loiter in aisles outside of designated GRIT stalls.
  • Put equipment away after use.
  • Lunging is permitted in designated indoor or outdoor areas. Please do not damage the footing.
  • Washrooms are available in Barn 8 and beside Barn 9 near the indoor arena.
  • No photography of on-site animals.

6. Riding & Supervision

  • Warm-up is permitted in designated areas.
  • Athletes must follow all arena and facility instructions.
  • Athletes under 18 require adult supervision outside of scheduled sessions.
  • Riding outside of scheduled sessions must follow Adena Springs North riding hours and supervision requirements.
  • Athletes are encouraged to watch and learn from other GRIT sessions whenever possible.

7. Athlete Expectations

GRIT athletes are expected to conduct themselves as representatives of Ontario Equestrian, GRIT, their coaches, and the program.

Athletes are expected to:

  • Attend all mounted and unmounted sessions.
  • Arrive at the arena 15–20 minutes before their ride time.
  • Set goals for each session.
  • Bring a notebook and take notes.
  • Support fellow athletes.
  • Celebrate effort and progress.
  • Be the kind of athlete others want to train beside.
  • Respect coaches, staff, volunteers, fellow athletes, auditors, guests, and facility staff.
  • Keep phones away while handling horses.
  • Maintain a professional and positive training environment.

8. Athlete Turnout

Athlete turnout should reflect the professional standards of Ontario Equestrian and GRIT.

For mounted sessions, athletes are expected to wear:

  • Clean tan breeches
  • Clean GRIT shirt, tucked in
  • Black belt
  • Clean black gloves
  • Polished boots
  • Clean helmet
  • Hair secured neatly in a low ponytail, braid, or bun
  • Minimal jewellery for safety and professionalism

The following are not permitted:

  • Crop tops
  • Ripped clothing
  • Oversized hoodies

HORSE HEALTH & BIOSECURITY

To protect the health of all horses attending camp, the following documentation is required:

  • Coggins: Within the past 6 months
  • Proof of current vaccinations
  • Statement of Health: Signed by a veterinarian within 30 days of arrival and confirming that the horse meets the required vaccination and health requirements

All participants are expected to follow biosecurity protocols and any additional instructions provided by Ontario Equestrian or the facility.

AUDITOR & GUEST RULES

Auditors and guests are welcome at GRIT Training Camp and play an important role in creating a positive learning environment. To protect our athletes, horses, and the integrity of the training environment, all auditors and guests must follow the rules below.

Registration & Access

  • All auditors and guests must be registered in advance.
  • A name badge is required for entry and re-entry to the event.

Biosecurity

For the health and safety of all horses and attendees:

  • Do not touch or feed horses.
  • Do not enter stable areas unless expressly permitted.
  • Follow all posted biosecurity requirements.
  • Use hand sanitizer before and after moving between areas.
  • Follow any additional instructions provided by staff or facility personnel.

Media, Photography & Recording

To protect the privacy of athletes and horses and maintain the integrity of the training environment:

  • Video recording is not permitted during any portion of the event unless expressly permitted by Ontario Equestrian.
  • Photography of on-site animals is not permitted.
  • Please do not photograph or record athletes during training unless specifically authorized.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional environment.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

The GRIT Fall Training Camp is a professional athlete development environment. Every participant contributes to the culture of the event.

Come prepared. Be respectful. Support one another. Take responsibility for your horse, your space, and your learning.
