Evaluation for the EC/NCCP Competition Coach Specialist Certification by Video

Candidates must hold EC Registered Coach Status and have completed all athlete coaching prerequisites in order to sign up for the evaluation.

This evaluation will begin the week of August 31, 2026 and take place over four months, to be completed by Dec 21, 2026 pending an in-competition evaluation date availability.

Evaluation Eligibility

Age (as of Jan 1, 2026) 20 years

Equestrian Canada Coach Status - Minimum current EC Registered Coach Status

EC Prerequisites -

  • Currently coach athletes at the relevant performance level (listed below) OR
  • Be a certified Competition Coach and actively coaching in the context


- Dressage: Second Level or higher, with at least one (1) minimum score of 65% at an EC Gold-sanctioned competition.

- Eventing: Athletes meeting Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MER) at the EV100 Level or above.

- Jumping: Athletes who are successfully completing clear courses jumping 1 m divisions at ECSilver or Gold sanctioned competitions or above. Hunter and equitation classes maybe considered for athlete competing in the following recognized classes/divisions (or above) : Pre-Green Hunter (EC Rules G303), Children’s Hunter (EC Rules G307), Adult Amateur Hunter (EC Rules G309), CET Mini-Medal (or provincial medal classes of similar level).


- General Performance: At least two (2) years of coaching experience producing athletes competing at breed sanctioned or provincially sanctioned competitions. Currently coaching athlete(s)competing and achieving top-5 placings in a class of six (6) or more competitors under at least two (2) different judges at a minimum of three (3) breed or provincially sanctioned competitions. These results must be repeated in at least three (3) of the following: Western Pleasure, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding. Show records verifying placings must be submitted.

- Reining: National Reining Horse Association(NRHA), Canadian Reining Classic (CRC) or breed shows and who have achieved min scores of 68 under at least two (2) different judges on three (3) or more runs.

- Speed Events: Provincial or national speed events, breed shows, or rodeos, and who have achieved the following:

Barrel Racing: A top-10 placing in any division at provincial or national speed event shows, or a top-6 placing at rodeos or breed shows, on three (3) or more runs. Pole Bending: A time of 26 seconds or under at provincial, national speed event or breed shows or rodeos on three (3) or more runs. Show records verifying the sets of either placings or times will need to be submitted.

Learn to Ride - Own or have access to Stable Management and Learn to Ride Manuals

NCCP Make Ethical Decisions online evaluation - Successfully completed through CAC Locker

Understanding the Rule of Two eLearning module - Completed through CAC Locker

Access to a facility or environment for recording video - Competitive rider(s), horse(s) at required performance level and facility or environment for recording video

Evaluation Schedule

This online evaluation is expected to be completed within the following schedule:

Week 1: Evaluator(s) Assigned

Week 2:Candidate pre-brief with lead coach evaluator & portfolio assigned

Weeks 3-6: Portfolio (Yearly Training Plan, Emergency Action Plan and Manage a Sport Program) drafts DUE to evaluator for feedback.

Weeks 7-8: Portfolio review and approval - lesson plan topics confirmed.

Weeks 9-11: Lesson Plans submitted and approved - videos must not be recorded prior to lesson plan evaluator approval.

Weeks 12-15: Lesson videos submitted

Week 16: - Competition date determined with evaluators - After in-Competition videos submitted, Final debrief and Action plan with evaluator(s) will be completed.
