Rookie Riders Instructor Training (Level 1 & 2 Combined)
This one-day training equips instructors with the tools to deliver Rookie Riders, a fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate introduction to equestrian sport for young children.
The curriculum focuses on building physical literacy, fundamental movement skills, and horse safety, progressing from unmounted activities to mounted skills. Instructors will learn how to safely introduce children to horses, including proper mounting and dismounting techniques.
Training includes:
- Horse-inspired games and activities to build fundamental movement skills
- Ground-based exercises to develop strength, posture, and body awareness
- Use of a “barrel horse” to teach key skills safely
- Structured lesson planning from unmounted to mounted progression
- Guidance on selecting and preparing suitable Rookie Riders horses
Eligibility Requirements:
- Current Equestrian Canada Coach Status
- Learn to Ride English Level 6 or Western Level 4
- Recommended: NCCP Instructor or Competition Coach Certification (or in progress)
This training is ideal for instructors looking to start or enhance a beginner youth program while expanding opportunities to engage younger riders in a safe and structured way.
